Advisory Board
Kate Hand, EVP, Gardner Business Media
Kate Hand brings nearly two decades of industry expertise to her role as VP of Operations at Gardner Media, where she oversees internal production, HR, and the web development team. After graduating with a degree in magazine publishing from Northwestern’s prestigious Medill School, Kate built her career in the content industry before transitioning to the operations side about a year and a half ago.
“I’ve been with Gardner for 18 years now. We publish eight specialized titles serving the manufacturing sector. While I spent most of my career on the content creation side, moving into operations has given me a whole new perspective on how everything fits together to deliver value to our readers and partners.”
John Galante, President, AE Ventures
John Galante’s media journey spans from traditional publishing to cutting-edge digital content at AE Ventures, where he created the online B2B brand Builder Innovator.
“We’re primarily events-based,” John explains. “We produce hosted-style Summits twice a year that inform and inspire innovative homebuilders and multifamily companies. But what makes us really unique is the ‘video-first’ B2B media platform that we launched about a year and a half ago.”
The platform, which John describes as “Netflix on innovation for builders and multifamily companies,” already houses over 800 pieces of video content, much of it produced in a talk show format captured at their events. Drawing from his early career experience at Reed in events and media, John helped shape AE Ventures since its formation in 2008, proudly noting they’ve been digital-only from the start, never venturing into print.
Kevin Uhlenhaker, President and CEO Parking Today
Kevin Uhlenhaker’s path to media ownership came through an unexpected route. His only previous media experience was “working on a student newspaper in 5th grade” before purchasing the 28-year-old Parking Today Media a year ago.
“My background is actually in technology,” Kevin explains. “I was originally a software developer who later co-founded my first company in 2013 in the parking management software space, which we eventually sold in 2018. After my second parking software company sold in 2022I, when the opportunity to acquire Parking Today came up, it was a perfect fit with my industry knowledge, even if the publishing aspect was new territory for me.”
Today, Kevin oversees a diverse media portfolio including a monthly print magazine, website, newsletters, and a podcast network. The company also runs an annual trade show with a 25-year history that brings together leaders across the parking industry.
Todd Lemke, Owner & Publisher, Omaha Magazine
When Todd Lemke speaks about Omaha Magazine, there’s the confidence that comes from building something truly enduring.
“This is my 43rd year in the business,” Todd shares, having transformed Omaha Magazine into what many consider one of the most successful city magazines in the country. Under his ownership and publisher role, the magazine generates an impressive $4.2 million in revenue from what began as a single brand.
Todd has diversified smartly, with custom publishing ventures like playbills and visitor guides now accounting for approximately $1 million of their annual revenue. “We’ve always focused on local and community content rather than chasing national stories,” Todd explains. “Staying true to that mission has built incredible loyalty among both readers and advertisers over the decades.”
Jane Bradley, Owner & Publisher, Parents Canada
Jane Bradley’s entrepreneurial journey began unexpectedly in 2007 when she was approached to launch a parenting magazine in Canada. What started as a professional opportunity became a personal mission when, ten years later, the original company decided to sell.
“I used my severance pay to buy the company in 2017,” Jane recalls. “By then, I’d been running Parents Canada for a decade and couldn’t bear to see it end or change hands.”
As owner of Jane Media, she has spent a total of 18 years developing the brand, transitioning it from print-first to digital-first while still producing two valued print magazines annually. Jane has pioneered multiple revenue streams including extensive sponsored content, “tried and trusted” product review programs, multiple websites and content hubs, email marketing, and even television segments. Her digital community now includes 75,000 engaged email subscribers across Canada.
