Mastering ChatGPT means giving the right prompts

The initial process can be frustrating for publishers hoping to save time using ChatGPT in everyday activities. It can actually take more time to edit a ChatGPT rewrite without the right skill sets.

Becoming a ChatGPT Power User in 45 minutes, shared by Kenny Katzgrau, publisher of RedBankGreen and founder of Broadstreet, is a great start to set the learning curve on fast forward.

Katzgrau’s webinar includes co-host Melissa Chowning of Twenty-First Digital and an audience and email marketing agency.

Katzgrau says the tool has become invaluable for creating Standards of Performance (SOPS)  for new employees. He speaks into the free SpechTexter, which transcribes his voice, dumps the text into ChatGPT,  and gives the right prompt to turn the document into a usable document. Chowning shows how to create evergreen story lists, produce content, and instantly turn it into social posts.

For those of you who don’t have 45 minutes, our biggest takeaway was to feed the software the suitable prompts.  There are only four types that you really need to know. Here are the ones Katzgrau advises publishers to use:

Prompt 1:  Who is the Persona

Instructions such as ” I am a publisher writing a letter to a new customer” or “Write this text as if the recipient is a salesperson with a new role in the company” identify either the speaker or the audience and allow ChatGPT to get closer to the desired output.

Prompt 2: Content Format

Is this an essay, a white paper, or a social post?  Feed this information in as well. Katzgrau says he may ask for a brief opening introduction, five bullet points, and a one-sentence close for sales letters.

Prompt 3:  Style

A simple prompt such as “formal language” or “informal conversational tone” will affect ChatGPT’s delivery.  You can also indicate whether to use the first, third person or second-person voice.

Prompt 4: Desired length

ChatGDP results tend to run long. For transcribed text, you can ask Chat GPT to meet a word count  – 300, 500 or 1000 words.

By following these four simple prompts, niche publishers can harness the power of ChatGPT to save time on routine tasks, such as editing White Papers, generating story ideas, reformatting it for social and email distribution, and other functional.

Many thanks to Katzfgrau for sharing this knowledge. See the full 45-minute video here.
